Do cardboard boats float?

When completely covered in duct tape, yes! They do!   But do they get very far? Luckily in our case, that wasn’t the goal.  …

But do they get very far? Luckily in our case, that wasn't the goal.

When we heard about Four Mounds' fundraiser for its H.E.A.R.T. program, we knew it was for us. On top of helping a great organization in a fun way, we'd get to showcase our creativity in a team effort. After voting on Captain Crunch as our boat's theme, it was time to get at it.

Meet the mastermind behind our build. Like most geniuses, Jeff's not used to the paparazzi being in his production space.

Piecing the boat together required equal parts finesse and brute force. And 10x the amount of duct tape.

Greg was gracious enough to donate his "lucky paddle" to the cause. We suspect this was the only time it's been used.

J-Bone, resident cereal connoisseur and master craftsman, hard at work finding the right milk-to-cereal ratio. Fun fact: Those "crunches" are made out of sponges, because the key to any successful boat is including materials that absorb and take on water.

Annie, you're beautiful. Never change!

There's our captain in full competitive garb!

The support team with matching crunch costumes.

Captain was a little concerned about the sea-worthiness of her vessel, but it was a successful launch!

Getting ready at the starting gate!

Aaaand total success! Annie just had so much power that all she could do was spin in circles.

We knew that speed wouldn't be our strength, so we decided to go for a fun theme. Doing donuts at the starting line took the silliness of our entry to another level, and the crowd got a kick out of it. Great job, team! Can't wait for next year!
