Becoming Johnson County Angel Buggy Interactive

Surviving WWII was an all-hands-on-deck effort that even included children. To help make bombs, sunflower seed oil was manufactured into nitroglycerine, and children were enlisted to push the “angel buggies” of explosives from station to station. Aptly named for the deadly consequences of being careless, this interactive educates visitors about both the process and the danger involved with the buggies. As they navigate the “buggy” along the path, an audio recording explains each step—but if the “buggy” brushes the edge of the path, an explosion indicates they need to take greater care.
